AirShuttle 2 – Official Shuttlecock for AirBadminton
The Victor AS AirShuttle 2 Outdoor Shuttlecock NEON ORANGE is the latest generation of the official shuttlecock
developed specifically for AirBadminton, the outdoor version of badminton
introduced by the Badminton World Federation (BWF). Designed to deliver
consistent performance in outdoor conditions, the AirShuttle 2 offers significantly
improved durability, visibility, and wind stability compared to the original AirShuttle.
Designed for Outdoor Play
Traditional feather and nylon shuttlecocks are highly affected by wind, making them
unsuitable for outdoor badminton. To solve this challenge, the BWF developed the
AirShuttle with the goal of creating a shuttlecock that provides a familiar badminton
playing experience while maintaining stable flight in light outdoor wind conditions.
The AirShuttle 2 retains the feel of badminton while offering:
- Excellent resistance to wind interference
- Improved durability for extended play

Key Design Objectives
The AirShuttle project was developed around several essential performance criteria:
- Flight trajectory and playing feel similar to a traditional indoor shuttlecock
- Consistent performance with minimal effect from humidity
- Reduced influence from crosswinds and headwinds
- Reliable playability in wind speeds of up to 12 km/h (7.5 mph)
- High durability and cost-effective performance for recreational and competitive play
Years of Research and Testing
Between 2015 and 2018, the BWF developed and evaluated more than
30 prototypes before finalizing the design.
Selected prototypes underwent extensive testing by the
University of Alicante (Spain) and the
University of Malaya (Malaysia). Players ranging from beginners to
Olympic-level athletes participated in field testing to evaluate flight performance,
durability, control, and overall playability. The testing results helped refine the final
design, and patents were subsequently filed for key engineering features.
Evolution from AirShuttle to AirShuttle 2
The original BWF AirShuttle was officially launched worldwide in
March 2020 as the first shuttlecock specifically engineered for
AirBadminton. Following extensive feedback from players, coaches, and national
badminton associations, the BWF introduced the AirShuttle 2 later in
2020, featuring:
- Greater durability
- Enhanced visibility with a bright neon orange color
- Improved consistency and overall outdoor performance
Today, the AirShuttle 2 is the official shuttlecock used for AirBadminton
worldwide and is approved for both recreational play and official competitions.
